Still Life, Acrylic painting

Manets  Pears, Acrylic on canvas, 16″ x 20″

This was another class assignment to reproduce mayonnaise paintings of pairs in a monochrome color. You could choose between black or burnt umber. I kind of liked the greys so I chose black.

I am new to acrylic painting so using mediums is very difficult for me coming from an oils world. How are pellet consists of black and white acrylic colours I have a medium and a light or medium for extending the colours. We also got to try out and extender which made all the difference in the world for having a nice black background.

I got 100% on this and I’m pretty happy with it I don’t really have any skills with using a brush so I just worked out at meticulously until I got it to look what I thought the original painting looked like.

Lino block printing

This is my attempt at Lino printing, where you carve into a rubber like plate. I did an eagle at first, but realized that the theme was Face in Space. I just drew whatever came to mind, no reference.

not my favourite medium, but it’s a first attempt. I couldn’t get the eyes right, which I pretty well destroyed so I used a pyrography tool and burned it.

The original name was “Wood Nymph with Conjunctivitis ” lol

Still life

This is our setup for still life drawings. I don’t have a photo of my final assignment, but will post later. It is really hard to draw from life!

We must use a method called sfumato… a smokey, hazy border rather than harsh lines. I haven’t mastered it yet, but you need a very light pencil to start it.

First fine art drawing

img_7862Egg, graphite pencil on Canson drawing paperMy first assignment is to draw an egg from life. Very different and challenging than from a photo! I got an 8/10 for this and that’s fine with me! My shadow wasn’t quite dark enough.

You start with an H pencil, then 2B then finally a 6B. No fingers or paper stubs allowed!

Yes, I cheat with a battery eraser 🙂
